Clear Lenses

Just been reading a piece in JWM Magazine about a XJS Superchrged 4.0...….

One of the things that caught my eye was the clear indicator lenses fitted to the front and side....any ideas where these may have come from?

The XJS in question was a Celebration model.

Also are the front indicators the same on the 'big bumper' models and the 'rubber bumper' models?

It's a Vitesse TP.....1986.

A TP - very nice!! I loved the 2 SD1s that I had in the 80s. Great cars!

So, are your clear lenses just some photoshopping or did you actually find some? If so, where? I quite like the idea of those on my 4 litre.

Twin Plenum Vitesse! Very nice! Quite rare nowadays I'd have thought?
Like Paul, I had 3 SD1's in the 80's and loved them all

So having fitted the clear lenses the side reflectors then stood out.....so have 'hidden' them a little.....







Still undecided if its ok or not....but it can all be put back to original easily!

I quite like the look! I'm nearly ready to start my own upgrade experiment.

What bulbs did you use in the side indicators? I purchased some 25 SMD amber LEDs but because they sit quite close to the inside of the lens, I think they'll spoil the clear look.

So I've bought some different ones also advertised as "Amber", but I think they'll be too yellow / white, when I power them up?

Also, what did you use to darken the side reflectors? I still have my daughter's old paint box to hand!

The bulbs I used are Osram silver coated amber bulbs on Amazon.....chrome indicator sidelight bulbs......

As for the reflector, I used some sticky window tint 35%.(ebay) Cut a template and then stick to the lens...….its a bit fiddly but can be removed if you want to go back to standard!

So, part one is completed. Clear side lenses and some amber 501 LED bulbs that appear completely clear when not in use, but flash amber brightly.

Part 2, the front indicators is also in train but is causing a few issues....

My problem is the rear indicator lenses (XJS) . Just not bright enough. Think I'll take off give a good internal clean and replace bulbs. Someone hooted me the other day. Bright sunlight so guess they were not able to observe that I had indicated my intentions.
