One more thank you to all involved in making this event of events happen!
We had some very, very unique cars on site, but it was the people who made this weekend the success it was...

What a fabulous weekend my wife and i thoroughly enjoyed it,it was so well organised and i even had my wife, Meryle navigate and take photographs while i drove, this is a first for the wife as i usually have to ask some one else,i think Ann Hunt talked her round, thank you Ann.My xj40 did a thousand miles from home and back and i loved every minute of the hole weekend, also the trip computer read 29.3 to the gallon, not bad for a 25 year old car .Regards Jim.

a fabbo weekend, with great people, great guests, great memories, even if I was sworn at and driven at TWICE by other hotel guests, lovely reference in trip advisor to me!!!, apparently I'm incredibly rude, you ain't seen nothing yet!!

Highlights were many, choose one, OK then, Jim Randle driving my Daimler at speed, and proclaiming "this is how we built XJ40 to be, sublime", then "lets see how it really goes" not sure how the residents of a small hosing estate took to a Daimler being flung around "their " island at the head of the road, hey ho, one to treasure
003.JPG
Thanks to many who were there, but a special one to Anne and Howard Hunt who took on the role of route planners and organisers, Anne was the receptionist at the hotel at the launch, Howard and her met there and have been together ever since, Anne admitted to me "that it got to me, a bit emotional at one point"

XJ40 means a lot to a lot of people, me included, thank you all

What wonderful photos and stories. The photograph of Jim Randle at the wheel of that Daimler is one to treasure.

I am glad this event went well. It was a fitting tribute to the car and to those who designed and made them. It was an excellent idea to celebrate 30 years of the XJ40 at Dunkeld.

The whole thing went so much better than I expected. Which was a relief!
We missed you there David. Shame you couldn't make it.

...we are planning to print a limited edition book on the event...
Planning has properly started now, and it will feature more than just shiny pictures.
Several more and less famous XJ40 people will be contributing to this publication, watch this space...

Time for an update...
An idea born over a few drinks in Dunkeld House has grown substantially bigger than I initially planned!

Hats off to motoring journalism icon Paul Skilleter and JHT's Jonathan Partridge: they shared so many archive pictures that we had to add several pages to the original planning!
True luxury problem, that is!

And that's not all: there are contributions from Ann & Howard Hunt, both directly involved in the 1986 press drives, as well as Ed Abbott (XJ40 testing), Colin Cook (Jaguar PR) and more...

Thumbs up to XJ40.com member and professional graphics designer Simon Rahm, who kindly volunteered to take care of book design. He's been working hard on all the stuff I threw at him and we are seeing the first outlines of something that undeniably looks like a real book!

Time for a sneak preview...
Note: these samples are 'work in progress' and may differ from the final version.
Pictures are in ultra-low resolution to avoid copyright issues; much of the material was shared to be used in the book exclusively...

This publication is a non-profit project: books will be sold at cost price plus shipping. That means that I can't share an exact price yet; will know that in a few weeks' time when I close the 'order book'. The more orders, the more affordable the books will be!

I expect a price tag in the 30 pound area (excl shipping), for a 12X12inch hardcover book, printed on glossy, photo-quality paper.

Interested?

Please send your shipping and email details to xj40at30@gmail.com and I will confirm pricing and shipping details around month-end. Intention is to ship the books mid-December latest, in time for Xmas presents.
