Hi
I'm the proud owner of an s type 2.7d.
The problem I have found is exhaust gases coming through air vents when car is idling has anyone else had this problem or any ideas how this happens.
Hi Alan
You don't say what part of the world you come from, The S Type Diesel has a Fuel Fired Heater which if it's working correctly activates at below 4 deg C on engine start up.
The exhaust gasses from this can be drawn into the cabin as you have to have the climate control on Auto so the heater fans are operating.
The only other thing I can think of is if one of you'r exhaust down pipe flexes are leaking.
If you can't check this out for yourself I would take the car somewhere where you can get it on a ramp for inspection.

Hi there Agriff and Jeff, I am newly arrived on this site having just got my S Type after a ten year absense from Jaguar ownership. I only have the car about a week and I find on the first post I've read, I am having the very symptoms you mentioned. That is to say I am at times getting some fumes in the cabin of this 07 2.7 diesel. So I very much appreciate your input and I will have the down pipe inspected. I am located in Londonderry N.Ireland.
Hi thomas45
It could be one of the downpie flexis as in agriff's case, but check to see if your Fuel Fired Heater is opperating if it's below 5 deg's C when you are getting the fumes in the cabin.
If the FFH is opperating and creating the fumes you can select recirculation on the Climate Controll and this will keep the fumes out of the cabin. I will say this, that if it is your FFH that is creating the fumes you are a lucky man as thease heaters are very tempremental and don't allways work.
PS Iv,e had my car for 6 years now and the dam thing has only worked twice even after trying variouse re-sets and re-start procedures. When the heater is working the water temp will be up after about a mile or so if not it will take about 6to7 miles before you get nice warm air into the cabin.

Hi Jeff, Yes I have now got an understanding of what happens and indeed that heater works at start up in the very cold temp . I've seen the smoke from it just for a minute and then all is ok. I keepthe auto button on most of the time while driving. But hey I'm still on the learning curve (for S Type that is) Thanks for advice.
A long learning curve with any modern car. Electronics being the biggest bug bear.
I`ve had an S-type now for around nine years and I still keep learning more the longer I keep it.
These diesels really do need the heater unit operational during the winter. The engine produces insufficient heat to warm the cabin around town. It is very cool running hence the need for extra bomb fire in a box.
