IT JUST POPPED OPEN

Postby joejag308 » Sat Apr 10, 2010 8:36 pm

Ive heard that before somewhere............another time maybe.....but, while you are on the subject.......we handsome lot in here keep telling you all to try your boot locks while you still have some life in the battery...........squirt some WD40 into the boot lock and when its free stick your key into the copper grease tin and put it in the lock so the grease can be inside...........then if you let the battery go flat by not having a Cetec...charger..........it will open via the lock................SIMPLES

Grease and WD do not go together I`m afraid.

It turns to a sticky sludge when the WD evaporates.

A drop of sewing machine oil only is rather better.

Sorry to contradict. Mixing lubricants causes more trouble than it solves in the long term.

of course don't forget if the battery is flat and the lock is seized, which is common on 308 and indeed 300's pop the bonnet and locate the positive terminal, add a jump pack and you can energise the car from here, pop the boot from the remote release in the car , Roberts your fathers brother!

BOOT LOCK LUBRICATION

Postby joejag308 » Tue Apr 20, 2010 12:08 pm

THE REASON WE DO TRY TO COME UP WITH SOME PREVENTATIVE METHODS IN THE 308 .....ONE OF WHICH IS THE LUBRICATION OF THE BOOT LOCK MECHANISM....A CONSTANT OCCURENCE....THEN IF THAT IS WORKING YOU CAN GET TO THE BATTERY...........Joe

I have one of those Bosch ones - Highly recommended, and I also cannot stress enough the importance of putting a good battery into these cars.

I haven't used my XJR for a while and the battery has gone flat and I cannot get into the boot. Where is the positive terminal under the bonnet?

It's on the bulkhead close to the inner wing. It's probably covered by it's rubber boot still. Remember to refit that after use. Also be careful where you use as an earth point. Some areas such as the top of the suspension strut (which is quite close) may not work properly because they are insulated.

Good luck
