Sagging roof lining

I recently purchased a 2002 cabriolet and have noticed that the roof lining appears to be sagging, both at the front and the rear of the car. The dealership compared it with another 2002 car in for a service and it too showed signs of the same problem. Overall, it seems to be about 2cm lower than it should. Any suggestions on how to 'stick it back up' or do I just have to live with it? Any suggestions greatfully received.

Have similar problem with roof lining on a 96 coupe. Have tried re-glueing it but with little success - the board between the cloth lining and the roof needs to be replaced.
I'm being quoted £428 (for parts) by Jaguar - does anyone have any better ideas? Can the new board be introduced to the car through the door or does the screen have to come out?
Any tips or information would be appreciated.

The seats have to come out first but the headliner can be removed without removing the screen. I would be tempted to ask one of the specialist Jaguar trimmers that advertise in the magazine if they could offer a better (cheaper) solution before ordering the parts. Mike.

It seems extraordinary that after 12 years the roof lining on a Jaguar is falling to bits while that on an equivalent age Ford or Vauxhall would probably still be as good as new!

After penning my last note I came across a BB thread on the XJ Forum where a member has pics of the same problem repaired using a form of trim stud. Again, it might be worth considering if only as as a temporary repair. Mike.

What we have done on a couple of convertibles is to wet the roof lining and then heat it up (with a hairdryer or similar) as this often shrinks the lining back into place.

If this does not work then there are strings that thread through the roof between the lining and outer roof. They can be tightened up but they are not the easiest job.
