Gas /Petrol tanks

Postby davewhit » Tue Nov 17, 2009 11:30 am

I'm considering fitting a gas conversion but do not wish to compromise the spare wheel. Has anyone knowledge of the fuel tank being replaced by a small petrol tank and a large gas tank. I need to run for long distances between fill-ups and the doughnut tank replacing the spare wheel appears too small for my needs.

Any advice or info welcome

Not sure what model XJS you have but I was reading about a conversion a while ago where the boot floor was modified to accomodate the gas tank so the owner could still have their spare wheel in the upright position as normal.

I have not seen it done on an XJS but I have worked on a discovery where the main tank had been removed and a cylinder tank for the gas put in place of it with a 4 gal small petrol tank put in along side. Small petrol tanks are a available from racing suppliers or could be made up by a good metal working shop. It is worth having a look at some of the gas kit suppliers as I don't think it would be too difficult to locate a tank around the same diameter of a XJS tank and about 2/3rds the length.

I would be interested to see how you get on as this is somthing that I am looking at doing.

Work it out very carefully before you spend anything. If LPG gets popular bloody Gordon will bang the tax up just as was done with diesel.
