CD changer - dead?

I've managed to source a genuine CD changer for my XJ8 and plugged it in. However there's no life. The cartridge won't eject and the headunit doesn't recognise that the changer is plugged. There's no error messages on the headunit and nothing happens when I press the 'CD' button on the unit. Is the changer duff? Can you reset the changer in anyway?

I don't know if it's the same radio as in an X300, but there is a common fault with thw CD changer not working, it's down to a joint not being soldered on the circuit board, the symtoms sound like what's happening to your radio. A good car audio shop will be able to check it out for you. Hope this helps.

did the car have a cd changer originally ?

if not, then the lead may need plugging into the back of the head unit...as well as the cd changer in the boot, as the head unit will throw a fault if there is no changer on the end of the lead, if you see what i mean

if it did have an original changer, then the problem is as above i suspect....

The car did originally have a changer in it. I'm going to remove the headunit and have a look behind it.
