I think the only breach of etiquette you have committed is posting an XK8 thread in the XJS forum
I thought a few of the forums were a bit thin on interesting content this month, but I'm not complaining because we all have the opportunity to contribute. Mind you as an owner of an AJ16 engined car I found the article on the manifold and exhaust repair very useful.

I agree the article on the exhaust downpipe removal was a great read. I also agree with you Chris that more content needs to come from those who knows best about our cars.
I would like to see more strip-down, repair, and put back together articles in the magazine under each models forum. The online forum is a great resource, but you cannot beat the old fashioned way of sitting down and reading a manual/article with some nice pictures / diagrams.
I also appreciate (like me) people do not have a lot of spare time to put these time consuming type of articles together.
This thread was certainly not intended at having a cheap shot at John!

I quite often nip over to the XK8 forum just to have a look. It's quite assuring to know even newer models have so many problems
Quite often Q&As on general problems come up which would be equally useful to many of us here. It's worth a trawl through the other forums occasionally.

Well Bleasie's method of using shaving cream to find exhaust blows was a new one on me, even though it may be an old trick. I wonder what the most unusual use of a personal grooming (or anything else for that matter) product in DIY car maintenance has been? Maybe worth a thread in itself!

Hah - well I once used Lynx deoderant to try and diagnose a leaking inlet manifold on my XJ-40 when broken down on a mountain-side in Switzerland. It didn't show any problem and we never did find out what caused the breakdown...

Did your car manage to pull after using the Lynx?
I'll get my coat

I tried replacing the timing chain with a string of sausages, that didn't work either.

Lynx (other BO bashings sprays available!) will work as an emergency replacement for Easy Start, mind you the exaust gasses wiff like a T**ts Handbag for a few minutes afterwards, don't know how much harm it will do in the long run but as it only ever gets used on a works lorry who cares!!!
