XK8 Window issue

Postby MichaelSB » Wed Jul 10, 2024 11:23 am

I have a 2005 X100 XK8 with the following issue
When I open the passenger door the window drops as it should but when I release the exterior handle the window goes back to full height preventing the door from being closed as the glass catches on the soft top, any ideas please, I have done the usual window reset .
Thank you
Michael

To Astromorg and John: My apologies to you both. I've only just seen your replies! Thank you for taking the trouble to respond. I will follow up these leads.

Hi Michael, I have never heard of this before, but my guess is something within the door latch, as obviously it should not go back up until it senses the door is actually closed, hopefully someone else may have more information...

Thanks Andy, I am trying avoid stripping the door before I have an idea of the solution and availability of the parts to reassemble it🤞🏻

With ignition On, if you open the passenger door, you should get a red warning light and and a message Passenger Door Open. When you release the door handle and the window incorrectly goes back up, do the message and red light remain or do both disappear. If they disappear, I think(!) that would suggest a problem with the Door Ajar microswitch in the door lock.
Edit:
Another point I should have made is there are a number of Bxxxx DTCs associated with the window lifts that might also give a steer, however, you need a decent Jaguar enabled scanner to bring them up; something like the laptop based AutoEnginuity

Hi, Another possibility is that the door control module may have failed, I had a window problem for a very long time, replaced door lock (early versions the microswitch is not serviceable), replaced the battery (How old is you battery???) and still no joy.

See my article in September 2020's Magazine describing the fix - it's available in the website magazine archive.

Best of luck

Update
I did the test suggested by Astromorg and found I get no message or red light to inform me the passenger door is open but I get both when the drivers door is open, thoughts please 🤔

Definitely points to an issue with the door lock module not communicating to the ECU properly, but not sure where you start...

Do you get the red light and passenger door open message as long as you continue to keep the door flap pulled up? I believe you said window pops up when you release the door handle? If you do, the problem must lie within the door handle itself I think, as Astromorg says. Unfortunately that's as far as my knowledge goes, maybe you have a local jaguar specialist or auto electrician who could take a look? Removing the door card is fairly easy, so you could do that and check for any broken wires to the door handle mechanism.

Hi Andy, I don’t get the door open message or the red light for the passenger door, only the drivers door

Almost by accident I've found a video on You Tube that was posted by an owner with exactly the same problem as you have :D

https://redirect.viglink.com/?format=go ... Blist%3DUL

As you will see, he replaces the door lock mechanism to fix this, but acknowledges that the problem is with one of the microswitches in the mechanism; there are three of them visible when you get the lock out and another inside the black box that is easily accessible. You could bench test each one without removing any of them from the mechanism and then search for a replacement from one of the many electronics parts suppliers. New locks appear to be unavailable and they seem rare at the Jaguar breakers just now. Ebay has a wide (crazy!) variety of prices to choose from.

The Reverend Sam is an American owner who has posted many videos of all sorts of jobs that he's done to his XK8. They are an invaluable source of detailed instructions on how to gain access to many parts of the car to do specific jobs. Check them out by searching in You Tube for Sam1174 Jaguar
