Any Members with a Mark IX?

I have recently acquired a 1959 Mark IX and would like to connect with other Mark 9 owners to share any advice as to keeping these beauties running.

Congrats on the purchase of your Mk IX - fine cars!

I hope you'll get some response here, but this particular forum is sadly not very well-utilised. Even the Admin user hasn't been active on the forums for some six years!

Perhaps it would be a good idea to also write in to the magazine, maybe with a short description and photos of the car and your purchase of it. That may better prompt some response from other owners.

I would like to encourage you to write into the magazine on how you got your Mark IX; it is always interesting to hear peoples stories.

Welp, I'm on my third! The first was a Mk VIIM that I bought from a scrapyard when I was at uni. Confused, all those years ago, I couldn't get a non-clunking gear change out of it. Eventually, I was offered a Rover 60 in straight swap for it. A good deal, a £25 scrap yard car for a £200-worth one then (erm, about 1968!)
Years later, I was back in Cambridge and visited the garage that did the deal. Why did you give me such a deal I asked? Owner's son replied: "Because it had a streight cut gearbox so must've been rallied at some stage in its life". <sigh> No wonder they wanted it! How much would such a gearbox be worth today? Or even then...?

My second was Kerry, that I shouldn't have sold, having re-imported it from the emerald isle, just to be sure, to be sure c/w ZV1800 registration. It was only 57,000 miles, one owner provenance having been part of a former Mayor of City of London's collection. I sold it coz it kept on being vandalised by keying -- I live in inner London and only have a flat nowadays. Eventually, people kept on offering money for it. These big cats need a garage and a half width space, and not finding one anywhere in south east London, I took a generous offer...

And my third is (still) being restored at the trimmers now. It's got a Daimler 420G 4.2L engine in it that marries up perfectly with the gearbox bell housing/transmission shaft. But I've forgotten how the speedo is read? And what changes I'll need to get speedo indication on the dash. I've sorted the rev counter, but the speedo? I dunno. Any thoughts?
