Past Jag's

My current prize is my XJS, however having been around a while, I have sampled a few other Jaguar models in the past. My first Jaguar was a 1964 3.4 MKII CFS 867B

I purchased the vehicle in 1972 when I was just 20yrs old. I bought it from a dealer on Shooters Hill, Blackheath, near to where the London marathon starts and paid the grand some of £80 for it.
After signing some sort of disclaimer regarding the vehicles condition, I drove off into the sunset.

Now outwardly the car looked splendid in Warwick grey over Tudor grey with a centre roof ariel and red upholstery. Even the woodwork was in good nick. The suprises came when I depressed the brake pedal, it did stop eventually but not without some excitement. Undeterred, cos I thought I looked the bizz, I carried on homeward.

Owning my first Jag was an eventful experience. The exhaust tail pipe fell off. A piece of the front chassis cross member parted company and found a new home on the grass verge. An HT lead came adrift whilst doing 100mph on the A2 shutting the engine down in lane 3. The clutch slave cylinder sprang a slow leak. Whenever I turned left the oil pressure would disappear and the cams would rattle. I got through a gallon of "Coma" oil every week. I accuired a crumpled F/N/S wing when the braking efficiency was tested to the limit one day. Apart from that it was one of the most reliable cars I have owned.

I hope sharing this has been of interest. If I get the time and inclination I will tell of other Jag's I have owned and driven.. Then perhaps not.. Happy motoring all :D
