I almost at my wits end with this, just cant sort. I've run out of ideas but someone has just suggested the rotary switch on the gearbox might be the issue. I think I've covered all other possibilities. Need to get her MOT'd beginning of December so need it all to work as it should. Still have to do the upper wishbone bushes, happy days.

On a completely different tact. Just returned home from a 3800 mile 4 week round trip down through France and Spain to family in the Algarve in our X150. What a pleasure to drive on their roads, motorways and ordinary roads alike. I have to admit (nerdy) to setting the trip recorder before we set off so I get 30.8 mpg. With the savings I made in not taking the XJS we could have another holiday :D

Nick,

You hadn't said if you had cleaned up the starter relay holder AND replaced the relay itself?

With the new ignition switch that you've fitted, and the fact you can start it by hot jumping the starter, I'd be minded to chase the problem forward from the ignition switch to the starter.

Good luck

Hi Paul

Yes. Cleaned the relay holder and replaced the relay. I'll look and examine again down to the solenoid. It is most frustrating.

Many thanks
