MK 2 front suspension help

Postby dave.johnson1322650 » Sun Jun 04, 2023 10:17 pm

I have recently purchased a low mileage 2.4---and the problem i have is the drivers side ride height is lower than the passenger---and several times when cornering with lock in the tyre has caught the wing panel---so i purchased new springs and had them fitted--certainly made it better but again tonight on entering my driveway with tight right lock on the tyre caught the wing again------which as bent the lip slightly--nothing that a rubber mallet wont sort but the problem needs addressing---any ideas??

I don't know anything about MK2 suspension I am afraid but have you checked that you have the correct sized wheels and/or tyres on?

Hello Dave,

are there any spacers fitted, my parts book lists two different thicknesses that go above the spring and fitted as required (1/4" and 1/8" thick).
Part numbers C11874 and C11874\1 respectively. Trial and error I would guess, in selecting the right thickness?

Dave,
I have a 1968 340 and after having 2 wheel arch repair panels fitted had the same issue...a recent call to Ken Jenkins highlighted that the arch should be rolled up inside at the back a little and not flat as they come from pressing. The body shop that fitted mine left the underside of the arch at 90° to the front face which reduces the clearance. Might be worth a check before you go further into the suspension. I have spent the last 10 years restoring the whole front subframe and it seems I need not have worried.
Good luck
Gary
