Throttle Actuator Control problem

Postby dyrham663 » Sun May 28, 2023 1:17 pm

Not sure if this is engine or electrics ... anyway

Car suddenly went to 'restricted performance'. Engine wouldnt go above idle mostly. Managed to limp home, lucky didnt get far.

Using the scanner I get this ;

Car Scanner ELM OBD2
DTC report
Selected brand: Jaguar
VIN: SAJAC43P475B08831

============1==============
U0104(00)
Raw code: C10400
ECU: 768
Status: Test failed, Test failed (current drive cycle), Confirmed, Test failed since last DTC clear Data bus, cruise control module - no communication

============2==============
P2106(29)
Raw code: 210629
ECU: Engine control unit[Archive (inactive)]
Status: Test failed since last DTC clear, Test not completed during this operation cycle Throttle actuator control (TAC) system - forced limited power mode

============3==============
P2106(64)
Raw code: 210664
ECU: Engine control unit[Archive (inactive)]
Status: Test failed since last DTC clear, Test not completed during this operation cycle Throttle actuator control (TAC) system - forced limited power mode

============4==============
P2119(00)
Raw code: 211900
ECU: Engine control unit[Archive (inactive)]
Status: Test failed since last DTC clear, Test not completed during this operation cycle Throttle actuator control (TAC), throttle valve - range/performance problem

Ignore fault 1, the Cruise control never works.

I'm guessing its a garage job but what is likely to have failed?

Thanks

I'm really an X100 man with only fringe experience with X150s from checking out those of a couple of mates. However, in the absence of any other offers, here's mine :x
Checking the DTCs against the workshop manual does at least provide some consistency in their reference to the Throttle Actuator Control System, but the less welcome point is that all three codes propose a new throttle body as the answer. I'm surprised there aren't replaceable constituent parts of the throttle body, but maybe that's progress :( . It also seems a little odd that two codes associate with a signal problem, but the other code is for a faulty spring. It could be useful to clear the codes using the ELM Reader and then run the engine for at least two separate occasions and see which of them - or if all - come back.

Maybe a complete throttle body replacement is the Jaguar/Dealer answer to these problem whereas a specialist independent garage or throttle body repair shop online might see it differently?

Thanks for the info.

I'll email the garage and let them know. See what they say.

Turns out to be a 'glitch'. Garage has reset everything.

They have a theory that it could be because my ACC module is not working , (see other thread!) other things are not getting inputs and could throw up spurous glitches. The system says things like 'ABS module not communicating with speed control module' etc.

This hasnt caused a problem in a year or 3000 miles but maybe time has come to bite the bullet and replace the ACC so everything is working. Garage think they can obtain a second hand part from Eurojag and if it turns out to be a connection issue rather than the module itself they will keep part for stock or return to Eurojag. This is a bumper off job and not something I have the facilities to attempt. I'll update the ACC thread as and when this is done.
