GPS Sat Nav

Postby BookerME » Tue Dec 27, 2022 12:50 pm

The SatNav on the XE has randomly placed the car in Le Havre.

A 20 odd mile journey home across Surrey yesterday didn’t clear it and I can’t find any reference to re-setting it.
Despite being parked out the front of my house, it thinks it’s in France!

Has anyone got any ideas on what may have caused this and how I might be able to fix it please?
Cheers, Mac.

It certainly sounds odd! Have you tried going from the "Where to" screen on the Nav menu to 'country' and entering UK there? Mike.

Hiya Mike, yes, I have.
I’ve tried several of the options, post codes, addresses, points of interest, etc.
I’ve even tried what the SatNav thinks is ‘local’ addresses of places in Le Havre.
Each attempt results in the audible response ‘the route is being calculated’ but the display immediately reverts to the ‘home’ screen – which places the car in Le Havre harbour with the text at the bottom of the screen ‘FAILED’.
I’ve also tried changing the scale of the map on the slide control. No effect.
I’m beginning to suspect it’s the GPS system itself within the car but I’ve no idea how it all hangs together or even talks to the SatNav.
I’m led to believe (though this could be false info of course) that it’s located in the Shark’s Fin on the roof.
It seems it may be the proverbial ‘black box’ without any user interface.
It’s not the end of the world, just annoying. I normally use Waze on my phone, blue-toothed to system, anyway but I like to see the map on the screen as well.

Hi Mac,
The shark's fin hides the GPS antenna. Its cable links to a splitter unit mounted below the boot floor, at the right hand side front of the below boot floor area. Because the system seems to have lost its reference signal, as a complete speculative guess at a solution, it might be work checking that the connections haven't been disturbed/come loose. It would be less expensive/inconvenient than paying for a Jaguar diagnostic session designed to pinpoint the problem. Mike.

It was a failed GPS unit under the "shark's fin" on the roof.
A nightmare of a job to get access to as the headlining has to be dropped and that was way out of my league not having the relevant skill set, experience or tools to complete the job.
Fortunately the Jag Doctor sorted it out for me and he was able to get access to it by carefully lowering the head lining and not having to remove & refit much else.

For info, the replacement GPS unit comes complete with the cover in primer but Jamie was able to carefully take it apart and re-use the original shark's fin cover, thus avoiding having the new one sprayed to match the car.
