battery boost

Just checking,on an X350 with a flat battery & no access to the boot,there is no booster point under the bonnet is there,can't see one mentioned in the handbook so assuming,rightly or wrongly,that that is the case please guys?

There is unlikely to be a booster point under the bonnet, but you should be able to find a battery feed positive + an earth. Attach your boost box or charger to these and that will allow you to pop the boot open and then you can access the proper charge / boost connections.

Thanks for the prompt reply Jim,I know you will have heard this before but I am asking for a friend who sent me a text with this problem last night.can't get hold of him this morning as yet so he is probably sorted(or given up!).

If you are on about the x350 XJ saloon then there is manual access using the key on the boot lid above the number plate plinth. If X150 XK then Jim knows best

I was going to say why not use the key to open the boot

My friend assures me that using the key in the lock doesn't work,he also cannot open the glove box which to me looks like the vehicle is somehow in valet mode,whatever he Sent me a text saying that he'd had enough & had gone out for the day in disgust!

The key in the boot lock will not work because it simply activates the solenoid to open the boot, it is not a physical lock - I don't think. With the flat battery, it needs to receive power on the circuits to energise the solenoid, hence, to locate the positive and earth under the bonnet, which can be opened without electrical power.

Hi snaefell,
You can power up the car from the fuse box under the bonnet. Put the + lead of the power supply on either one of the metal terminals of the 80 amp Fuse No 35 and the other one to any good earth.
Only do this to gain access to the boot,not to charge the battery.
