JEC Tool Hire Service

Dear All

The thread in "Comments and Suggestions" has raised a number of difficulties associated with this JEC service.

Whilst I can promise nothing (not even blood, sweat and tears) I am more than happy to raise any such problems that members have experienced with Annie Jenkins and the Club Committee to see if things can be improved.

To keep things in one place can you please re-post HERE with your thoughts and I'll then take them forward on our behalf.

Best Wishes

JEC Tool Hire Service

Tony

My experience (and I believe that of at least one other member) is that while Annie is charm and efficiency personified, the present 'rules' mean that you only get one day's of use out of the notional week's worth of hire.

To get a parcel back by Tuesday using Royal Mail, one has to post on Friday (or Saturday morning, if you're lucky enough to have a parcel depot that's open then.) Either that, or pay a whopping surcharge for a courier service. Changing the hire 'out-and-back' day to Wednesday might at least allow one to use the tool over the weekend.

Several people have also expressed surprise at the steepness of the hire charge. I know some tools wear out, but quite a few don't - how often has the crankshaft seal sizing tool had to be replaced, for example? Obvious cases of abuse should attract an appropriate fee, clearly, but something that costs £50 to make doesn't have to repay its cost every six months, surely?

BUMP :!:

Al thanks for that lone response.

Pop, Leon, Tel, as I understand it the main problems are with.......

1. Hire Dates do not allow a weekends use and would be better moved to start Weds or even better Thurs.
2. Cost - are tools being wriiten off over time and therefore should costs be reduced, notwithstanding issues re replacement costs.
3. There is only one spring compressor available despite it being a very popular tool.

I will be raising these issues soon with the powers that be - are there any other thoughts on this item?

Regards
