Rail Trim / Waist Trim

Postby robertpalmer77608 » Mon May 30, 2022 10:28 am

Hello
I'd appreciate any advice on where to purchase some driver and passenger window rail trim / waist rail trim for my 1996 XK8
I know bubbling / oxidising is a common issue but I haven't been able to source any replacement parts
Does anyone have any reccomendations ?
Many thanks
Robert

Hello Robert, yes a common problem. I understand that DCR AutoParts have now started making these, I refer to the May issue of the Club magazine, page 64 onwards. Good luck

Thank you Peter - yes that's exactly where I started and specifically because of that article.
I spoke to Dave at DCR a couple of times but no luck with the parts
Thanks

Robert

Try the USA - Around 4 years ago I bought a good set from a private seller (only needed re-painting). Cost of parts was ok but Delivery & Import Duty more than doubled the cost.
The USA was one of the biggest markets for the X100 so try Jag Breakers in the USA as they may do a lot of business with the UK & therefore arrange space on regular Container Shipments to the UK. It would take longer to get the parts but the delivery costs would be far less. You will still need to pay the Import Duty.
Good Luck

Hi Robert, as an alternative to the aluminium and rubber trim / seal of the XK8, you could look at the rubber only seal. There is an article in the October 2020 edition of the JE magazine that highlights this modification - even as a decent stop gap until you can locate suitable options. If you don't have your own hard copy available, you can find a copy in the digital archive. Go to the Members area and open the magazine archive. You are looking for October 2020 in the Modern XK section.

It may be worth contacting John at www.tothegarage.co.uk I am pretty sure he has replaced his with an alternative to the originals, which are rare as hen's teeth. Mine are bubbling a lot, but other issues are more pressing!
