Thank you old timer, I has been a labour of love and thousands of pounds have been spent to get it looking and running this good, but I intend to keep and maintain it at all cost now. The previous owner looked after it meticulously and I intend to do the same.I am hoping that one day it will be one of the finest examples left on the road.... maybe even find a home in a motor museum eventually. I would also be happy to show it at JEC events if the club thinks it is special enough.

I confess I haven't had the covers off the sills but I will get that looked at. On the last MOT, about 6 months ago, there were no advisories or mentions of rust. However it is a good tip as it best to catch such things early. If there is a problem I am presuming the sills can be replaced or welded? Cost is not an issue now, whatever needs doing will be done.

I have not read all the stuff on the boards yet, some of it may be a bit too technical for my understanding but I will look. I have found out a lot about the S-Type from reading articles on the web and I think this car has suffered from just about all of the major common faults and they have all been rectified. The engine has been given a clean bill of heath by a Jaguar specialist and the transmission has been completely rebuilt. I suppose the big ends may fail, but if they did I would source a replacement engine :D

Some of my friends do not understand why I didn't cut my losses and buy a newer car, an XF or similar, but anybody can do that. I prefer to have something people will look at and admire, something I feel I have kept alive when others would have either scrapped or sold with its faults to an unsuspecting buyer who then may not have been able to afford to fix them.... I guess this is like "recycling"... good for the environment... but I won't pretend it is any more than a love of my Jag :D

Reviving an oldish thread.

Did they do the Proteus wheels in 17 inch?
I have had a search and can't find them so I guess not, it looks like 18 inch is the only option (no intention of going to 19 inch and painted on tyres).

Days of looning around like a complete idiot are not quite gone but still prefer the slow in/fast out approach, overtaking in straight lines, in daylight and only if I can see at least a mile ahead so ultimate grip in the corners not a priority.

Quite tempted by this package (I will need new tyres this year sometime).

A non OE spec wheel, Steve.

Check with your insurance company to make sure they will accept such a modification.

Also check quality to ensure these after-market wheels conform to UK construction an use regs. After-market wheels are not always as well constructed as genuine OE products.

I`m not condeming these wheels but it pays to research well before parting with your cash. The maxims of buyer beware and could you buy better must apply.

Oh well, a year later and still haven't done anything about the wheels and tyres.
Forced isolation due to a certain bug going around has given me loads of time to do some more research.
Annoyingly also can't get to listen to my new exhaust in action.

Found out today that X Type 17 inch Aguilas won't fit an S Type, allegedly due to fouling on the suspension; shame because I think that they would suit the car.
So I guess that it will be 18 inch wheels and tyres then if I fancy a change.

Hi Steve,
Good to see your still around and keeping safe.
I don't envy you choosing wheels for your S-Type.
It is hard to choose the right style.
I've come to the conclusion that only Jaguar wheels look right on the X308 range so I will be sticking with the ones I have for the moment.
I was gifted a set of Penta alloy's this week, they need a bit of a refurb but are quite good enough as a spare set. :)
Shame about the X-Type wheels,I suppose spacers are out of the question to clear the fouling, insurance company might not approve though :(
Good luck with tracking down a suitable set of wheels anyway.
Enjoy your car and stay safe.

Cheers Andy!

Got these, assured no buckles or splits and a matching set of Firestones with 6/7mm tread left; should be better than the 'City Racer' that the car is currently shod with.
The new exhaust will drown out any extra tyre noise.
The wheels look really good apart from a bit of bubbling in the centres so have to decide whether to get them stripped and painted or just bolt them straight on,

Do you need a special tyre valve adaptor for BBS wheels?
I stumbled across one on line and wasn't entirely sure of its purpose, other than to adapt the tyre valve.

Hi Steve,
Never had BBS wheels myself but as no one has replied to your question I have found some info on the BBS valves here:(post No 5 has good info)
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-x ... ure-77883/
This is the company that supplies the valves etc:
https://www.sbwheels.store/bbs
Wheels look very smart BTW.
Hope that helps a bit.
Take care.

Well, the new wheels haven't arrived yet; the seller went to the lock up to get them and they had been stolen!
Another, better set, on the way apparently.
I don't think it is a scam, vendor has 100% feedback on Ebay.

Hi Steve,
Wheels look good and really suit the car.
From what I can see in the photo's they seem to be in very good condition.
Well done and I'm glad your enjoying the S-Type.
Take care.
