Diesel fuel

Postby trevor.pocklington781 » Tue Dec 14, 2021 11:33 am

Hello
I have the 2.7L diesel version of the S type. What is the feeling about fuel? Is it worthwhile paying the extra for premium rather than regular diesel. In the Woking area at the moment premium is approx £1.63 per litre !!!!!
Regards

I always used super when i had my diesel s type, though in all honesty on the odd occasion it wasn’t available I can’t say I noticed any difference. The engine is so good it probably doesn’t matter too much.

This engine designed and built by Ford/PSA (Citroen Peugeot etc) was intended for French Farmers to run on fermented Apple Juice replacing the 2CV, so Diesel in any form is a treat for the engine. Jaguar just breathed on it little to run on Whisky, boost the performance and intoxicate anyone following..

Hi Trevor,
I run mine on the premium fuel, however as said above the car will run ok on the standard stuff, I never put supermarket fuel into mine

As an aside my mate when he retired got a part time job in one of the large supermarkets with a fuel station attached.
`One day he was in the office chatting up the ladies as usual when he saw them passing the invoices for the fuel station.
They were from ESSO

Hi Dave,
I finish work at about 2am and quite often see a Texaco tanker delivering fuel to the local Co-Op petrol station!!
I'm just glad we can still get fuel  .
Take care.

I believe that using the premium desiel ( shell v power) will reduce the well documented problems associated with the DPF Avoiding short journeys will also help as much as using quality fuel. Another benefit of using premium fuel ,is slightly less turbo lag. I admit this is hard to prove or quantify but what I've noticed is now that acceleration is more progressive, without the sudden burst of speed as the turbo kicks in that I used to experience when I used the standard desiel fuel from supermarket supplies.
Yes, it's more expensive, but when you compare the achievable thirty-eight m.p.g.with the desiel engine, against any petrol variety There is also a potential long term saving on expensive engine parts like injectors,, fuel pump etc .
