What workshop manuals are available for the XJS 4.0 and where to get them from?

Hi Steve

There's the XJ-S 3.6/XJ-SC3.6/XJ-S4.0 Service Manual (AKM 9063 and Supplement AKM 9063BB, all one volume) big green paperback, 184pp. Not sure if these are still available new but they crop up on ebay regularly, about £25.00.

Alternatively it's available with the parts fiche on cd-rom for about £12.00 from all sorts of places JEC, JDHT etc. Be aware there are early and late cd-roms, the break is probably at facelift I would guess

If you intend do do any serious work I would go for the hard copy - I like to have the book to hand whilst doing the job, tho others like to print off relevent pages and keep their manual pristine. Also I find the cd-rom a bit of a pain to navigate tho that's probably more down to me!

Hey Steve

Beware of the Green paper back book, it's terminally useless for facelifts, despite claims to the contrary inside the front cover.

Nearly all the descriptions are for the 3.6 items and if you don't know already, almost none of the pre-facelift systems are the same. The supplements in the Green book are badly copied and incomplete and despite appearances it wasn't produced by Jaguar but by Brooklands books.

The CD from the JDHT (JHM 1127) and the supplement (JHM 1123) are not perfect, either, (some of the scans of the parts pages are diabolical) but at least they know about outboard brake disks, that the wiring harness changed and give info on how to reset the brake ECM.
