idle speed control - 2k rpm at idle

Postby bigjim » Sun Aug 02, 2009 4:59 pm

Hi there,
Can some body please tell me where the idle speed control valve is on a 1986 3.6 man? I can find it on the later 4.0 as the wires to it helpfully say idle on them. There is what looks like a breather hose from the air filter to the manifold in the same place but as there are no wires to it I don't think this is it. On the base of the throttle body the is a device with three wires going to a blue connecter on the loom but I think this is a throttle positon sensor.

I am assuming that if this is gummed up (car has been OTR 3+ years) this would cause the problem, I have already cleaned the throttle body + valve and I think this is closing OK. I have sprayed carb cleaner around the inlet side to check for air leaks and all seems well. Does any one out there have any other bright ideas?

Thanks
