Wind noise
Moderator:Aceman
I am looking or a solution to reduce or eliminate the wind noise from the quarterlight windows in my newly restored 1967 Mk2 3.4. The noise is a lot less when you open the quarterlight window but pulling it closed tightly makes no difference.
Re: Wind noise
Hello FMG340,
one area to check is that the door is sitting properly onto the body seals, this can be a source of wind noise.

Re: Wind noise
We faced this problem on many models with quarter lights in the 60’s. Firstly it is important to establish exactly where on the quarter light the noise is initiated.
To find that position use tape and /or Blue Tack to fully seal the quarter light glass to rubber and rubber to door gap. Road test the car to confirm the noise has ceased. Carefully remove the tape/ blue tack in about 2 inch (50mm) sections and repeat the road tests after each section is removed until the noise returns.
I am aware that this is a long winded process, but necessary. Be aware that you may get a reading at some point that is caused by air currents from the front edge of the door, or the roof drip channel. If you feel this is happening, try taping those areas to alter the air flow. Once you can establish the exact source it is fairly easy to eliminate.

Re: Wind noise
Had this problem with my newly restored MK2. What I thought was wind noise coming from the quarter light turned out to be coming from the chrome strip (chrome finisher front rh drip moulding). I diagnosed it by taping over various candidates with masking tape and test driving e.g. quarter light, door seals and the drip moulding. The later proved to be the problem and on closer inspection it hadn't seated properly, the wind was getting under it at speed and lifting it slightly causing the noise. Hope this helps. Ian
