Discs

Had an irritating vibration on the front through the steering wheel on light braking coming off the motorway on to a slip road for example. Had it for quite a long time. Tried wheel balancing but to no avail. Decided ,after advice, to change the Discs after it was suggested that one might be warped, a common problem apparently with vented discs. These discs were changed at an annual service 2 years ago so weren't overly worn in 2018.
So, decided also to renew the calipers at the same time, nothing wrong with the existing but I thought as I'm keeping the car for a while, it's a good one it seems, with nothing really wrong with it in nearly 100K miles. Started the job with new discs ,pads, wear sensors etc and new (re-Manufactured) calipers. Everything became very interesting then when changing the calipers. The designated, by the Supplier ,RH Caliper didn't fit the Offside wheel, it was a fit for the Nearside wheel. The designated LH caliper didn't fit at all to either side. On closer examination of the remanufactured caliper one half of it, the piston half, was marked Jaguar, the other half of the caliper was marked VW Audi. and would not fit over the Carrier. So I re-assembled the brake with the existing calipers , new discs, and pads etc and cured the vibration. Brilliant. The Offside Disc had a discernible ripple on the face for about 6 inches around the braking face, in line with the vent casting of the disc. As far as the Re-Manufactured Calipers are concerned I'm keeping the one that fits and am trying to get the other useless one replaced. The Company I am dealing with are hiding behind their very comprehensive terms and conditions in a remarkable way even though they have been misled by their own Supplier and , their cataloging ,is clearly not embracing conventional orientation of Offside and Nearside for Right Hand drive vehicles.

Update:- On return of the offending Jaguar/VW-Audi caliper the supplier reported the it was in fact a RH caliper but was put in the wrong box, RH meaning Offside. They agreed that they would send me a Offside Caliper in exchange FOC. The Offside caliper I received the next day was in fact a Jaguar stamped Offside caliper with Ate cast into the other half of it just like the original existing caliper fitted by Jaguar during assembly of the car , a perfect fit to my Jaguar with the correct orientation of the bleed nipple and Hydraulic connection, low and behold problem solved ,for me, I just hope they don't send the caliper I returned to some unsuspecting Jaguar owner who really needs a replacement urgently.
