Hello,
I am the new owner of an XJS reg. J56 SVV which use to belong to a gentleman named Bill Buckley, member no. 26874. I am wondering if anyone knew him or the car?

Hi Paul,
Welcome and i hope you are enjoying the new car, is it up and running or in need of a little tlc before hits the road?
Any pics?
As for the previous owner I am new myself so can't help but if the member numbers are issued consecutively he must be an old school member as my number just issued was over 100,000

Re: New owner
Hi, I'll have to find some photo's and with my limited knowledge learn how to post them. The car is on the road yes. It needed a replacement front subframe at the backend of last year. I also fitted two new back boxes on the exhaust (sports one's from Simply Performance).
I've done plenty of fettling over winter and am about to change the fuel tank sender unit. I also need an aerial and relay.

Paul,
Good to hear about the car. As a matter of interest, what makes you think your fuel sender needs replacing?

I don't for sure. But I've got a new one and the currently it reads low even when the tank is full.

PAul,
Before you pull the tank apart and change the sender, try bypassing the anti-slosh module and see if the gauge level rises. It's a common failure item.

Re: New owner
Thanks, anti slosh module? I'll have to look that one up. I've changed the sender. The hardest part was getting the fuel level down low enough!
I don't know if it's made any difference yet as I have not put much fuel in it yet.

Re: New owner
The anti-slosh module was a device fitted in facelift XJSs to minimise the impact of fuel moving around in the tank and causing a fluctuating gauge.
It looks like a very large relay and uses capacitors to take the input voltage from the sender and smooth the voltage output pattern to give rise to a steady gauge. It also enables the low-fuel warning light.
Over time the capacitors "leak" giving rise to a low-reading gauge.
If you remove the module from its holder and bridge the input and output terminals of the holder with a short wire then you provide a direct feed from the sender to the gauge. Yes, it may fluctuate but if the gauge reads higher than previously, it at least points to a failing A-S module.
The module is located on the left side inner wheel arch. You remove the carpet trim and look forward with a torch towards the front of the boot down the left-hand side. It looks like a very large black relay. The two terminals to bridge on the holder are the vertical one in the middle and the horizontal one immediately below it.
Hope that helps!

Paul, thant's a fantastic help, thank you very much. I did indeed have a look around that area of the boot and remember seeing it. Once again, thanks!

Re: New owner
Right, I've had a look. There is an ATE control unit with to it's left is a blue normal sized relay. To it's right there is a large black box that does not look like a relay. Forward of that is a large black relay ( thinking this is the one) and in front of that (towards vehicle front) is a normal sized blue relay. This is all down the left hand wheel arch area.
If you think this is right I'll test it, thanks.

Re: New owner
Paul,
It sounds like that one. It's like an elongated black relay attached to standard relay holder.
If you disconnect it and then get no reading on the fuel gauge, that confirms it!
Good luck
