Auto or Manual?

Postby GeoffSpencer1 » Mon Apr 19, 2021 6:15 pm

Hello everyone,

I’m starting to look for a Mark X. Having read up about them I was wondering what anyone’s thoughts and experiences are regarding manual or automatic transmission? I also see there’s an option for overdrive do people consider this essential? I know it’s a personal choice and I would normally opt for autos but given how few good cars seem to be about I don’t want to unnecessarily restrict my options.
Any thoughts or advice most gladly welcome.
Best wishes
Geoff

Too heavy and clunky for a manual, auto all the way. Manual was the most undesirable when they were new and much the same now. The Borg Warner type 8 is a beautiful smooth and effortless gearbox.

Hello Geoff,

it is your personal preference I would suggest.
Personally I will never have an automatic as I don't like their characteristics but there again I wouldn't have Mk 10 either.

I would also suggest that the overall condition will be the overiding reason to pick one car ove an other. As you ask the question I assume that you are ambivalent about whichever type of transmission it has? Did the manual version also come with an overdrive option as that is a big bonus to me.
