I have just replaced my rear shock, springs and brake calipers after taking the IRS cage out. After putting it back in and taking it out for a test there was a banging sound when I went over a dip. It appeared to be from the drivers side but I am not sure.

Everything went back on using my torque wrench where possible but a thought did occur to me, what position should things be at when re-connecting the radius arm.

Have I missed something?

Cheers

Exhaust would be first on my list of things to check, its very close to the cage in places.

Cheers Pop I did have a bit of trouble setting the passenger side back box so I will check it.
The noise does seem a bit more 'solid' it you know what I mean as thogh it is something sold rather tahn hollow.
If it isn't the exhaust does anybody have any other ides?

sounds like the exhaust should be the first thing to look at

as for the radius arms etc , the nuts and bolt holding these should only be tightened once the car is resting on its on wheels and not jacked up, this ensures all the rubbers are in the right place for tightening ,

Brake buster

Thanks for that I think they were tightened once the shock were put back on as I thoght that wouls put it in the right position.
I will loosen them again tonight the re-tighten them.

I will also have a check on the exhaust at the same time.

I haven't had chance to take another look since the weekend so we will see what happens.

I have checked the exhaust and re-done the raddius arm bolts but I am still getting a bang when I go over a dip or hole in the road. I have had a quick look under the car for any marks indicating where the noise could be coming from but haven't seen anything.

Can anyone offer more options?

Cheers

one thing does come to mind after rebuilding my rear cage , and as you mention the bang on up and down movement rather than braking......

did you make sure the inner sleeve was installed into the top of the damper bush that bolts up in the top of the cage, this sleeve would probably be stuck in the old shocks that came out, and need pushing out and installing into the replacement, providing you didnt by new sleeves for the job,

i also found that with my new damper bush eyes that they were not quite as thick as the originals ( 1/16 ) where they mounted to the lower swing arm, and i had to shim out the gap with a washer so the lower damper mount didnt move around on the bolt , this could be done by hand , worth checking......

The top sleeves are definately in the new shocks.
As for the lower bolts etc I would need to check that out.

Thanks

A passing thought, how are the mounting bolts for the diff?

the ones on top of the cage are difficult to see but are prone to loosening off.
