Hello everyone.
I'm sure this question has been asked a hundred times... but I can't find a definitive answer!
Do the 16in 8j lattice alloys found on XJ40 and X300 fit an XJS without spacers or modification?
I have an '86 V12 with 15in lattice, but really want some 16s. The 6.5j (?) found on the Le Mans are very expensive - if you can find 'em. The 8j are now getting pricey too, and I want to ensure they will fit before I invest.
Help much appreciated! Many thanks, Ian.

Re: 8j 16in lattice alloys XJS
I believe like the XJ series three, whereby the larger 8J 16" wheel will require a 5mm spacer so that the inside of the wheel does not foul the steering arm. I have front spacers on mine and whilst its not the best solution I have never had a balance or safety issue, I will at some stage look for spacers with the integrated hub...

Many thanks @V12Smig.
So 5mm spacers front, and bolt straight on rears.
I don't suppose you know the make and supplier of your 5mm spacers please?
How do the wheels sit on your car? Do they look good? I would love a pic or two if you're able.

Re: 8j 16in lattice alloys XJS
I did have the rear arches trimmed but I recall that was more to do with removing some rust, but I don't think that the rear wheels need to have spacers. I originally had one inch spacers but the guy who use to look after my car fitted the thin ones, If I get time today/tonight I will take a photo, but as said its not the most belts and braces solution...
Honestly the 16's made a massive difference, the stance for me is spot on

Ian,
Over the years, I have read differing viewpoints on this one. The Jaguar 8J x 16 lattice (part no, CBC9643) run a 33mm offset.
Some owners say that they have run these fine on the front with 225/55 tyres, although the clearances are very tight.
Others have said that a 13mm spacer on the front guarantees no problems. Naturally you'd need to check wheel stud threads to ensure you can still get a safe 7 threads engagement.
If you're committed to fitting them anyway, why not try them without the spacer and check the wheels are not touching even on full lock. If there's a problem, it'll be no problem to get spacers.
Good luck
Paul

@V12Smig, your car looks absolutely stunning!
I love a series 3 Jag - in my opinion it is the most beautiful large saloon car ever produced.
I must admit, when you said you had fitted 16in lattice alloys to a series 3, I had reservations. But it sits really nicely, and along with the subtle chin spoiler has a lovely stance - my compliments!

Re: 8j 16in lattice alloys XJS
Hi ptjs1 Paul,
Many thanks for your advice. I'm not yet fully committed to them, but am keeping an eye open for a reasonable deal as an option.
I've been looking at Image wheels, maybe the Billet 250 or the Billet 203 - but they are so expensive. I may keep an eye out for a single tatty (cheap!) 8j lattice, buy it and offer it up - that way I'll know for sure.
It all depends how on far I go with the restomod - if I go the whole hog, £2k on Image wheels will be a drop in the ocean!
