Antifreeze concentration

I've just had the radiator on my series 1 XJ6 4.2 re-cored and having flushed out the system need to re-antifreeze. Using "Comma Super Coldmaster Concentrate" ( blue ) and wondering what concentration to use. Interested in it's anti-corrosion properties rather than anti-freezing. ( after all we'll never see frost or snow ever again according to the Swedish climate expert! ) I'm thinking of 25% as the higher the concentration the more likely to suffer leaks.

Hi - I use a 50:50 ratio. My thinking is that I want to keep the proportion of anti-freeze up so that the corrosion inhibitors aren't given too much of a challenge. It's a much higher concentration than would be necessary for any cold weather the cars might encounter. I've no science behind this but I feel the cost difference isn't that great so why not?
I'm intrigued by your implication that a coolant mixture with a higher ratio is more likely to leak? Have I understood you correctly and if so, why?

I have always understood that leaks are more likely when antifreeze is present in the coolant. Maybe difference between 25% and 50% isn't relevant. The only references that I can find regarding concentration refer to level of protection against sub zero ambient temperatures.

Jaguar's original recommendations for XJ6 antifreeze were to use a 40% concentration (55% USA & Canada) and never to allow the concentration to fall below 25% for any reason. Mike.

I would presume that the Jaguar recomendations refer to frost protection as they quote different concentrations for Europe and North America. Maybe the minimum 25% refers to corrosion protection.

Re: waterless coolant, no experience, but Edd China put some in a car in a Wheeler Dealers episode, and removed the pressure cap from the cooling system! These coolants boil well above engine temperature, so there's no need to pressurise the system. Which is probably good for old cars with their screw clamps and cloth-reinforced rubber hoses.

HOWEVER, possibly this way madness lies. That advantage becomes a drawback when you use it to neglect proper cooling system maintenance, and who wants to be stuck roadside waiting for the AA man to find a replacement supply (at significant cost above that of regular antifreeze + water).

It's an interesting choice.

Hi Paul, I don't think anyone who posts on here would neglect their cooling system.... be really good though to have some actual bone fide review if anyone knows of one..
