28,000 mile 2006 X-Type SE Nav

Hi,

Not posted on this part of the forum yet. Took possession of this on the 1st June 2020.

2006 X-Type 2.0D SE Nav with everything apart from wooden steering wheel and piped seats. Midnight Black with Champagne interior, 1 female owner from new who ordered it from my local dealership.

It was put up on eBay in May, right smack bang in the middle of lockdown when no one could leave the house other than for exercise and shopping. I knew of the car as it was Edinburgh supplied new and I had seen it around town for the past 14 or so years, so when I saw it up for auction for pretty much nothing, I stuck in a criminally low bid on the off chance. I was the highest bidder for a week until the final few seconds I was snipered by one of these foreign scammers. I sent a message to the seller, asking for him to get in touch if my suspicions became confirmed, and 4 days later he contacted me and said "just come and get it". So using my one hour of allowed physical escape, I went and collected it, or should I say stole it. Absolute bargain. One female owner, 28,000 miles. Needs a little paint to the bumpers as it lived in the big posh houses at the centre of Edinburgh so has some light parking grazes. Champagne interior is immaculate, alloys need a refurb. Also, sills are original, with no rot!!! All thoroughly checked, looks like the old woman never took the car out in the Scottish weather, so I have caked the sills and underside with clear wax to preserve every last bit of it.

I had X-Types when they were new, loved them, I don't agree with the nonsense people give them, they are great. This car joins my daily, my X350 3.5 XJ8 and my two XJ40's which are only used for shows.

This car will remain a low miler. Its going to be preserved, only coming out for the odd show between taking the 40's. I believe X-Type will go the exact way of the XJ40, it will be overlooked and disliked by the masses until they are pretty much gone, and then they will finally be appreciated for how good they were all along. I don't care about values, I never buy cars to sell, so whatever it needs over the years/decades, it will get, and will be kept in the best shape possible.

I have spent the past 4-5 years documenting over 102,000 XJ40/XJ81 cars for the XJ40 Register, and a couple of months ago I expanded the project to include X400 (X-Type) and X350/X358. A big challenge but if its like XJ40, its a very worthwhile challenge as one day they will be mostly gone and they deserve a record to be kept for myself and future owners/enthusiasts to enjoy!

Paul

Well done Paul - sounds like you struck gold!
I bought one of the very last X Types new in March 2009. It was a Sovereign estate with all the toys in indigo with barley interior and in essence a mini XJ. It was a good looking car and served me well for 3 years and over 100k miles. Don't believe all the nonsense about it being a Mondeo in drag - they are very good cars in their own right and proper Jaguars!
