Could someone help me with where its best to take the live feed from for the spotlamps on my recent purchase please.
It is a 340 and came with fitted spotlamps (and fogs but they work okay).
When I got the car a wire had been added to the full beam side of the dip switch on the floor. That has a switch in the line and then goes into the engine bay. I was intending using that as the 'switching' feed for the relay I have purhased. I have an earth wire but don't know where best to take the feed from the fusebox. At the moment new wires would take power to the lamps from the relay and a earth comes back into the engine bay earth brackets.
Any corrections or advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks in advance
Phil

Hello Phil,
lights on the fed from the non ignition switched fuse, which is always live. Personally I would make up a new feed from the battery to a fuse and then feed the relay. Don'r skimp on the size of teh supply wire and the wires to the lamps.
Fusing on the Jaguar Mk2 is very poor really.

Thanks Piman
Excuse my ignorance but is that A2 or A4. Elecrics are not my strong suit.
The spots are Lucas LR6 which I am fairly certain are 50W each so I've got 25 amp wire with an in-line 20 amp fuse.
Do you think that is okay please.
Again thanks for the help.

Hello Phil,
without checking the manual I can't say. however the battery fed will have brown and purple wires, the ignition fed will have white and green wires (Primary colours).
That cable sounds good.
It is also a good idea to use relays and large diameter wires for the head lights, it should make a noticeable difference in brightness. Incandescent lamps are very sensitive to voltage, a small loss gives a large drop in brightness. It also reduce sthe load on the old switchgear.

As usual Alec, some very good info.
The 'dark magic' of electrics can be a bit worrying to us mere mortals.
My tip would be take a few pictures and notes about what's connected to what and where, so when you come to put it back together, particularly if it all goes wrong, you have the info you need.

An interesting read is post 5 on this thread. It is talking about wiring in relays for the head lights on an ‘S-Type’ but could have some cross over for your task.

Thanks to everyone that will help me sort it now.
Hopefully we'll be able to have a non-essential driveout.
