Hi all, last week I had 2 new cats and a new stainless exhaust fitted, my engine light is on and when they put it on their Snap-on diagnostic machine it came up with the following codes
P0151 heated exhaust oxygen sensor bank 2 sensor 1 ???
P0154
P0051
I take it these are the lambda sensors but there are upper and lower, can anyone shed any light on what ones they are and where I can get them.

Re: Oxygen sensor
These are usually of Denso manufacture. SNG Barrett have extensive knowledge on which units fit which sub-model. Fit only genuine items which will come with the correct plug fittings and calibration. Avoid after-market products which are often far from suitable.
Don`t change any parts until those you have on the car are PROVED to be defective.
You might initially try a battery disconnect for twenty minutes. This will clear fault codes from the ECU memory. Ensure you have your radio code handy before disconnection. You will also have to reset the clock.
Ensure your battery is fully charged before disconnection. Many faults of this type can be down to a sub-standard battery. Also try a couple of cans of Cataclean in the fuel to help clear dirty Oxy sensors. Only change sensors after you have tried everything else to clear the issue. Remember a DTC only points in the general direction of a fault. Just because diagnosis suggests a failed sensor, this may not prove to be the true cause.

Re: Oxygen sensor
Thanks Mike, I have put a couple of bottles of cataclean through but will try the other things you have suggested, I was initially told it was my left hand catalytic converter and here I am £1k lighter and still have the management light on.
Re: Oxygen sensor
Hi John why did you change the complete exhaust system, or am I missing something here.

Re: Oxygen sensor
Hello Jeff, while I was there as the car is a keeper I just thought I would take the opportunity to fit a nice stainless exhaust, sounds awesome
Re: Oxygen sensor
And after trying all what was suggested the light popped back on so after another check it does look like the sensor on bank 2, but thanks to Mike for the help

Re: Oxygen sensor
When you say "a new stainless exhaust which sounds awesome" do you mean it was a sports exhaust, because as far as I know all S Types were fitted with a stainless steel system from standard.

Re: Oxygen sensor
Jeff is correct but obviously they were heavily stuffed with baffles and sound deadening material, ex factory.
Some might remember the modified £1000 Miltek resonatorless exhaust that I had fitted to my V8 S-type some years ago. A great low down V8 voice but after several years of use, I tired of it. Drive it for 300 miles in a day and you wanted to stuff cheese in your ears!
Graham Searle had a modified system on his S-type. It made the car sound like an open header American car. You could hear him coming miles away. He used to drive it with ear muffs on. That system was too much of a good thing and Graham eventually relented and calmed the noise down again!

Re: Oxygen sensor
Hi Jeff, yes it's a sports exhaust, went for mid-sports noise as I made the mistake of full on with my S4, and as Mike says it was funny for a week or two but when the neighbours start asking what's wrong with the car I had to have it sorted, so the S-Type sounds lovely now.
