fuel pressure

Postby jimonskye » Mon Apr 06, 2009 9:36 pm

hi, i have a starting problem on my 86 3.6. I have fitted a new ecu and engine temp sensor. 3 times out of 4 the engine fires instantly, but if not it seems to flood and wont start for ages. on testing the fuel pressure it seems normal, but one test seemed to show a higher pressure ( not positive this reading was correct ) any advice would be welcomed
thanks jim

Hi Jim

How long have you had this problem?
If it's only just started it's possible that the crankshaft position sensor is on it's way out.

An '86 3.6 was before the CPS was introduced, have a look at :

which may help.

thanks guys, i fitted a new crank position sensor ( it took 2 weeks to get the old one out without breaking it ), and blasted air through the vacuum pipe ( lots of crud and water ). The car now starts on the button and runs great, many thanks for the help
