Series three fuel injection conversion

Postby colingray » Mon Jan 27, 2020 2:32 pm

Here we go short and simple.... well for now anyway.
I am thinking of converting my series 3 from carburettors to injection for fuel delivery.
Looking for tips and guides etc as I know several will have made this improvement?
So stoll on by if you are not a fan of injection or a purist in the orginalty police this is not a place for you
I am thinking buy an old XJS or similar and using the system from that.
Any tips or guides more than welcome.
Thanks

Hi Colin
The only guide I've seen was written by AJ6 engineering, its pretty good and does as you say use the approach of taking parts from a later fuel injected HE v12. Buying an XJS donor is a bit more expensive than it used to be though...
I've been thinking of doing the same, and trying to weigh up the benefits of the system used on later cars compared to the individual throttle bodies like this https://store.jenvey.co.uk/jaguar-v12-e ... jr04-kit

E.F.I. Conversion to series three e type

Postby richard.whittington » Thu Feb 11, 2021 2:38 pm

Hello Colin
I had my car converted to e.f.i. several years ago, following the details as recommended by Roger Bywater of AJ6 Engineering in his very well documented book on the subject, that is still available.
The result is a better car to drive, with improved economy and balance. My car is manual
Although I am pleased with the results, from my own experience, I would advise you of the following:>

1/ Buying a XJS H E to cannibalise for use in the conversion is fraught with danger. Because you can not be sure of the quality of the parts used, it will be more difficult to identify any faults that you will incur will incur during the conversion.

2/ To my knowledge A.J.6 Engineering are the only company that have produced , what is a very comprehensive instruction manual on the conversion. Roger Bywater is a very knowledgeable chap, and very helpful if you have any issues when working on the conversion.

3/ It is essential that you keep a comprehensive and pictorial reference of the conversion, and ensure that if you personally doing the work, that the others involved are qualified, and familiar with the details involved. The engineer that converted my car, is now retired, and in the event that something in the system requires attention, then I have to resort to looking at
a/ the original series three e type workshop manual and parts manual
b/ the xjs manual and parts manual
c/ the AJ6 Engineering conversion book.
All of which is very trying.
The conversion will not be cheap, and probably more than you anticipate.
The end result will be beneficial, and after all, is what Jaguar cars intended for the series three,
I that the above will be of some assistance, and wish you well in your conversion

Kind Regards
R Whittington

Hello Colin,

not that my views will help you at all, but I have a spare Lucas mechanical injection system from a Triumph and once I finish my MK 2 would like to try and fit that just for the challenge of making the manifolds and attaching the metering unit and then getting it to run properly. I haven't a clue what benefits there are, if any, but the idea is interesting to me, particulalrly as some competition E Types used the Lucas system.
(And no, it's not as unreliable as it's repution gives it, I've used it on my Triumph for donkeys years)
