Hello to all
Having taken off the drivers side door card on a number of occasions to
access motor for window - Have used WD40 and Greece, but only seems
to be a temporary fix.
Has anyone any ideas or experienced this.
It is very annoying at the multi storey attempting to retreive ticket or pay and on Toll - trying to pay!

Are you absolutely sure it's the motor?
The console switches in some models were less than perfect - 1980s ones in particular. Getting the switch apart and cleaning it may help (as well as providing hours of amusement trying to find all the microscopic bits when the springs ping out on the garage floor

I support the switch theory. Try swapping them over to confirm.

Is the problem intermittent?
If so, could be the electric motor saftey cut-out. My XJ-S driver's window very occasionally cuts out. Wait 3 mins before using again, then all is well... until the next time it happens!
I can only imagine the frustration involved with having this happen at a pay barrier!

My window sticks also and occassionally passenger side.
Its surprising how much rain gets through a half open xjs window at 70mph on the M1 in 3 minutes

Driver's side window sticking
Dear all.
Many thanks to you all for the replies on the above subject. Just to recap
I have tried changing over the switches in the past, it has made no
difference. In terms of the cut out and waiting for 3 minutes, this does not
seem to be the problem. As odd as it seems, on times it almost as if
the glass is running uneven on the runners. I can only overcome the
problem short term by using WD40. Any more useful suggestions
would be gratefully received.

Phil,
Have you checked your glass run channel rubber for wear (unless it's been changed over the life of the car it will have worn!) and guide channel (the metal bit at the bottom of the window channel.
If the glass runner channel is worn the glass tilts on the motor pivot and sticks in the runner which trips the safety cut out so the window sticks.
Hope this helps
