Engine Undertray

Postby ian.inglis919 » Mon Nov 25, 2019 10:13 pm

My 2009 XK (150) 5.0litre is getting its missing undertray/undershield" back, part no. C2P25349, as it was ..er.. missing on purchase... :(

Grateful if you can give advice, apart from the two bolts that I can see go with the part, on what style ("spire" nuts?/1/4 turn buckle screws? or other) and how many of them might be required to have it properly secured. I don't want to turn up with the piece at garage with hoist to ask for fitment to be told they don't happen to have the correct fasteners.

thanks :)

There were three different undershields fitted to 5 litre cars so there may also be differences in the fittings. Typically, there were two M6 30mm bolts, two springnuts, & two 25mm screws plus any fixings common to the bumper and wheel arch liner. Mike.

Many thanks Mike.

:o I would never have guessed there were as many as three different variants of undershield for the same-engined vehicle (even despite there being XKs, XKRs, coupes and convertibles). I suppose its due to slight improvements over the years.

:D New engine undertray now happily fitted the other week after renewal of transmission fluid and sump and filter renewal.
The attached pic is not very clear but is from underneath, looking from the rear to the front of the car. The newly fitted engine undertray(middle of pic) and the new, black, ribbed gearbox sump(foreground) can be seen.
If you look carefully there are a couple of tongue pieces and screw/bolt holes on the rearward edge of the undertray...

My question:
is there ?another undertray that attaches at its front end to the engine undertray? It would in effect cover the transmission sump.

Mmmm, just re-reading Mikes previous note after posting the above.

Mike's note states "there were three different undertrays fitted to the 5.0litre cars".

I took that to mean there were three different undertrays, (but at each instance just 1 undertray), fitted during the time-span of the 5.0litre cars. I think, now,I wrongly understood it that way.

Does it mean rather that the 5.0 litre cars have three different undertrays: counting the one at the front bumper, one main one underneath the engine and one further back under the gearbox sump.

Hope someone can gently sort me out!!

Tks

There are three variants of the single undertray so, to answer your question, no, there isn't one which covers the gearbox sump. :) Mike.

I personally think that whether or not you should take out a loan very much depends on your other options. I for one hate borrowing from friends or family, so I really prefer working with lenders. I don’t do it more often than I absolutely need to, but this is the web link to the ones that I used when there is no avoiding it.
