Lambda Sensors

Postby clivesaunders » Fri Oct 11, 2019 12:24 pm

Lambda Sensors. 02 XKR 4.0Ltr convertible. 140,000Mls

I am replacing Upstream - Bank 2 / Passenger-side sensor, also decided to replace both Upstream units as I noted quite a fiddly job whilst on ramp.

Are the sensors changeable i.e. can you swop left to right, although I appreciate not upstream to downstream

As I am keeping this lovely I am now considering replacing both ‘downstream’ sensors as well, thinking will be cost-effective for 17 year old car with 140,000Mls…excellent engines!

Is there any Information of the life expectancy for these sensors..?

Appreciate your comments & observations;

“ Thanks “

Clive

Hi Clive,
Not sure about life expectancy of the Lambda sensors but I think you are wise to replace all at the same time.
Also it could confuse the ECU a little if you have one new one and three old ones but then I'm a bit eccentric like that :D .(keeps things all nicely balanced,IMO).
At seventeen years old your bound to get another one go if you just do the one,if your luck is anything like mine  .
No difference between passenger side or drivers side.
Hope that helps a bit.
Take care.

Lambda sensors are not dissimilar to spark plugs in that they deteriorate steadily throughout their lives. It's best to treat them in the same way and take a deep breath (when you see their cost) and for best performance, be prepared to replace them as a set once they have survived past 100,000 miles. " Thanks " Andy & Mike
Appreciate your response, agreed I'll get the garage (I dont have the facilities/ability myself) change all 4.
Should then be good for another 100,000+

Best

Clive
