A little problem over here. Just got the car back from the garage and the alarm goes off a few seconds after I lock the car, I was told to open all the doors & boot/bonnet to reset the alarm that doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas please. Thank you in advance

Re: Alarm xk8 2005
The alarm sounder has a small rechargeable battery located inside it. Like all rechargeable batteries, its life is limited and when it gets old, it can cause sensitivity issues. Notionally, the battery isn't replaceable meaning that a new sounder is the only official option. Nevertheless, some keen DIYers have succeeded in replacing these batteries. However, before going this far, it would be as well to ensure the car's main battery is fully charged and up to scratch. A visit to a garage may have drained it if it wasn't attached to a charger whilst some types of work were going on. Try recharging the main battery first. Then, if the problem persists, have the main battery tested properly (just because it starts the car doesn't mean it's OK and doesn't need changing). Finally, consider tackling the alarm sounder. Mike.

Thanks so much Mike, I'll try all the above & I'm grateful for your prompt reply. In ages past I would have been able to do the work on the car myself but as a young 78 yr old these days I do struggle.
I was wondering if you could help me discover who the first owner of my vehicle was, please, as I'm not computer savvy these days.
Or would you please point us in the direction of how we can proceed.
I would be most grateful for your help in this matter.

Pip, do you by chance have the original Service record book as that usually has the first owners details in the first page or so.

Re: Alarm xk8 2005
Hi Pip,
Unfortunately, you will need a degree of luck to track down your car's previous owners. The advent of the GDPR legislation means that Jaguar and its dealers (or any car dealer) will no longer supply this information. Unfortunately, there are no exemptions to the rules so, as Astromorg has suggested, you will have to search for scraps of evidence contained in any old paperwork you have which relates to the car. Mike.

Re: Alarm xk8 2005
My 2006 (56) XK is on its THIRD alarm siren module! It has only covered 46000 miles so I find these units of very poor quality - as when I opened one up to see if I could replace the re-chargeable battery I found in both cases that the pcb was horribly corroded. This gives rise to the "clicking fingers" noise which drives me mad when I am working near the car in my garage.
I seem to remember that 18 months ago I tried to buy a new unit and was told none were available.
I tried my dealer again as the s/h unit I bought on e-bay 18 mths ago has now failed with the same pcb damage!!
The part is Numbered C2D47174 and is priced at £115.75 - but due to an ongoing 'conversation' between the manufacturer and Jaguar I am told that none are available as spares yet again - even though this part is still used on the XF and XE new cars.
For any one with this problem search Google for the above part number - and buy the NEWEST you can find as they are all prone to corrosion of the pcb (possibly by 'sweating' as they are inside a sealed housing.
Replacement entails removing the Drivers side pedestrian airbag unit and the bolt-on bracket it sits on to gain access to the two mounting
bolts - which only require slackening as they are slotted to fit the captive bolts on the bulkhead.
Similar units are also fitted to Volvos and Fords to name but two!!
