water pump repair kit

can anyone help, i bought a couple of waterpump repair kits to renovate my v12 pumps, but they have no instructions with the kit. i have stripped and cleaned the old pump bodies, it i quite obvious were most parts go, i.e shaft, impeller, inner sping type seal. but the old pump had a different seal assembly, must be old style. the problem is that i have one small part which is like a washer with a rubber seal, i did not find this part on the old pump so i have no idea where it fits on the shaft or which way round it goes, i pressume that it must be important to be fitted, as i do not think it would be supplied in the kit. p.s the kit is made in the u.s.a. thanks dave courtney.

At a guess, the steel flat edge of the viton seal would go against the mechanical seal
If not, try an email to Sean directly, he's a nice guy and has always answered my questions.
BTW where did you get the rebuild kit from, I had no luck at all in the UK, I was looking for a kit for the pump from the 4 litre straight 6 engine pump.
I attempted to pull apart an old pump and the impellor just crumpled, no holes are pre-drilled and tapped to help pull the impellor from the shaft, but by the sounds of it, the one on the V 12 pump is.

hi! i bought the kits from someone on ebay, but I have since seen the same kits for sale on the internet. I just typed in xjs water pump repair kit and several came up, parts from anywhere are dear now because of the dollar exchange rate. I did try sending two emails to this company in the usa, as the american part number was the same as the number printed on my kits. they must have received these emails because did not receive to say that the were not delivered so they are just not bothering to contact me, so I have given up trying, regards dave courtney.
