Cruise control XK8

Postby max69 » Sun Apr 21, 2019 2:16 pm

I have a 2001 x100, it is not fitted with cruise control. Has anyone retrofitted cruise control to there car? does it just require the switch by the sport button steering wheel switches, brake pedal micro switch. And is the software installed in the ECU

Since most cars around this time were fitted with cruise or adaptive cruise, I don't recall anyone trying to add cruise retrospectively. However, one issue which may have a bearing on the question was that XK8 electrical architecture changed in the late nineties and, as a result, adding electrical accessories became much more difficult. Dealer systems were permitted less access to the cars' basic electrical architecture so it became important to specify accessories from the factory rather than adding them afterwards. Consequently, my best guess is that it won't be possible but I'd love to be proved wrong! Mike.

This owner seems to have found the most straightforward of solutions, just having to install the relevant switches. I can't vouch for his solution, but I'd give it a go if I didn't have CC.

Gents I can confirm that you can retrofit cruise control. If you have a post-2000 model it will only require you to fit an additional switch at the gear surround, a 2 limit switch to the brake peddle switch plate and the correct cruise switches to the steering wheel. The brake peddle switch is awkward 2 persons required. the gear lever switch is straight forward.
The steering wheel plastic requires cutting as well as the airbag. make sure you disconnect the battery before removing the airbag.
I purchased most of the parts from the web The software is already in the ECU.
