Warranty Wise - Worth doing it?

Postby LaurenceJ » Thu Jan 24, 2019 1:21 pm

I have just become a member of JEC and I am wondering if the Warranty Wise cover is worth the cost, at over £600 for my 2016 XE it seems quite a lot at first, but it says some wear and tear items, such as brake discs/pads are covered. For just cover against things going wrong it seems quite a lot as, fingers crossed, not many things should be going wrong with it as it is still quite new and low milage of 19k.

Do they get these done by Jaguar? If so it might be worth while as I guess Jaguar would change a few hundred to replace brake disc/pads, they are due to be replaced soon.

It also says it have breakdown cover, what does this include?

Anything else that is covered that can make it worth while

I have also e-mailed them but would be interested in other experiences with the company.

Insurance is just a specific form of gambling. These days, cars are generally more reliable but when they do go wrong, it's rarely cheap to fix them, so it has to be a personal decision whether it's worthwhile taking out a warranty policy. Graham Searle, based at the Club's office, has dealings with various warranty companies on behalf of the Club. Give him a ring and chat things through. Mike.

Are you sure it covers wear and tear items? These are normally specifically excluded from these sort of policies. I can't say I've experienced this particular company but have found this to be the case with one of their competitors, Warranty Direct. They don't pay anything like Jaguar labour rates either, so you can end up with a big deficit to pay if you use a main dealer. Even Jaguar extended warranties (much more expensive) can use this ploy of 'not covered' as a repair. On an X308 XJ8 I had covered that way, a thermostat tower sprung a major leak due to a failed gasket. Jaguar said this was not covered as it was classed as a "consumable".

I reckon they are all as bad as each other: you'd be better off banking the money towards any repairs that might be needed, and if nothing goes wrong you still have the money!

I always think it's best to read the policy exclusions first.

I fully agree with Brian on this one. On the 3rd anniversary of buying my first Jag the dealer offered me and extended warranty package that I considered extortionate so decided to add the proposed premium to the 'Contingency Fund' that the First Lady did not know about and have been doing so ever since. So far it's paid for a demolished gearbox and all the wear and tear works and has made very significant dents in the purchases of new cars since.

Keep it in your own bank and you decide on what the exclusions are rather than some slippery b@£$$ in the city. :P
