Views on 5.0 v8 NA

HiAll,
I am trying to decide on my next Jaguar. It will be an XJ for definite and I thought I had decided on the X350/358 XJ8 Sovereign.

However the X351 is growing on me quite strongly.

I want a petrol engine, and I was wondering what members views and experience is of the non-supercharged 5 litre in the X351 (and XF) Portfolio.

Are there any known issues with this engine? What realistic fuel consumption could one expect to get?
How does it compare with the 4.2 for reliability and running costs etc etc etc. (I drive an X-type 2.5 v6 at present).

Is it a reliable lump oris it a bit ofa diva with regards to servicing.

All views and comments appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Tony

Hi Tony

Did you get your V8 petrol in the end? I’ve just bought one on a 2011 plate. One week into ownership I’m still grinning but wondered what experience you’ve had since you posted this?

Hi Si,
In the end I got an X350 4.2 Sovereign. I drive around 10000 per annum in it and have averaged 25/26 mpg. This dropped a lot with E10 but went back to E5 pretty quickly.
Overall it has been reliable with most of the issues being caused by mice in the engine bay.
Lovely smooth engine and gearbox. Fantastic car

Hi Tony

Thanks for your reply 😁 Your car sounds like a real beauty (bad news about the mice though!) I note your point about the E10, that’s very useful to know, thanks for that.

Cheers

Si
