My 1994 3.2s was running standard timing and ignition
i have bought the ' Andy bracket ' for the crank shaft pickup sensor on the front of the engine, this gives me 5º advance of timing over standard,
the brackets are still available, and it cost £75 all in , this was for the late AJ6 and AJ16 engine, as there are three different versions from what i can gather
arrived in the post yesterday as a birthday present from my two sons, after asking permission to fit it early ( as it isn't my birthday for another week , lol ) , my car doesn't have aircon as its a 3.2S ( few did ) so access isn't bad, but still restrictive due to the large radiator top hose going right over the sensor position
i tried removing a spare sensor from the scrap yard a few weeks back , and the bracket broke ! so i wasn't going to risk this until having the new bracket , luckily the 8mm bolt came out easily , and so did the 10mm mounting bolts, i recovered the two hollow dowel pins, and fitted the new bracket , installed the sensor after giving it a wipe over , but was quite clean to start with , and gently tightened down into the bracket , never over tighten items into aluminium, as it doesn't give any warning before breaking or stripping a thread ,
so , the litmus test, i turned the car over and she instantly fired into life as always, let the engine settle and gave a few revs with the pedal , i could feel it was more responsive and picked up slightly quicker , so hopefully it will provide what its claimed to do .
new plugs, leads and distributor cap have already been fitted, genuine Jaguar items to .
so just a road test tomorrow now
future mods include a Jaguarsport cast aluminium dual plenum induction manifold and 4ltr TB from an XJR40 , i have had these for years ,
i just can't help myself, lol

Re: Andy Bracket fitted to my 3.2S
That's interesting Vince, I've heard good things about them.
I believe the 'Unleaded conversion' was a different timing bracket but I'm not sure if it advanced or retarded the ignition and by what degree. Would you know how the three types compared? I expect the 3.6 and 4.0 were different as well.

Well done Vince (and happy birthday!)
I fitted one of these a couple of years back to the 4ltr AJ16 in my Celebration and it made a noticeable improvement.

David

Yes. Fitted one last year to my 3.2. Took out the flat-spot around 2500rpm, and much more responsive in the mid-range. Not really much-better on the top-end of course, perhaps gets there a bit quicker.

Re: Andy Bracket fitted to my 3.2S
I offer two designs of revised crank sensor brackets. The most popular version, is the one that replaces EBC5017. This design of bracket was fitted to all AJ16 and "late" AJ6 engines fitted to XJ40s from VIN 667829 ( 4.0L engine number 667829) and XJS from VIN 179736. My other design of bracket is intended to replace EBC1253 used on 3.6L engines from engine number 108834, through to 4.0L engine number 161586.

Re: Andy Bracket fitted to my 3.2S
well as many of you know I have been a great believer in these brackets, in fact I some years was able to test a car fitted with one and an identical without one, just to prove the gains are real and not in the "I've modded my car so it WILL be quicker"!!
K44XJR is a well known, a well used and high mileage, manual XJR 300, fit a bracket and the % gain is the same , but start with a higher BHP you gain will be more if course, K44 after fitting went like stink, those at Prescott saw it in action, its the mid range punch where the gains is most noticeable, astonishing tbh
On the other hand P760NRW is a 10K from new car, identical spec, and is somewhat slower and less responsive in standard form
I also have one on my 3.2 LWB XJ40 Majestic which with all the extra weight was as slow as a slug, it still is, but again you notice the improvement mid range
best few quid you will spend imo, and an east fit even on an late 300 XJR with all the extra piping and air pumps etc

Re: Andy Bracket fitted to my 3.2S
after living with this ' modification ' for a few weeks now, i can confidently say that there IS a NOTICEABLE improvement in power delivery , as mentioned before, this is mostly in the mid range from around 2500 revs upwards
' spirited ' driving ( yes these old girls should still be able to pick up their skirts and go once in a while ) is rewarded with this gained power release from the use of the bracket
so from my point of view a worth while expense and modification to be applied to these engines
as for fuel economy.....who cares , its a Jag.....
BB
next job is a fluid and filter change for my NON electronic 4 speed auto box

Whilst you are at it Vince, pop on an Eaton M90 blower and methanol injection. You know it makes sense and won`t take long to do.....

Any chance to get hold of such a bracket ?I offer two designs of revised crank sensor brackets. The most popular version, is the one that replaces EBC5017. I have got three 4.0 Daimlers and for starters look at installing one of these brackets in one of them.
Anyone who can offer one, please message me to make me aware of availability.

Re: Andy Bracket fitted to my 3.2S
Thanks robv12, before reading this I found instructions on another site to email apparently hos wife who supposedly administer orders. So I did that. Will check email at work tomorrow.
Re: Andy Bracket fitted to my 3.2S
Just Bought and fitted an Andy Bracket, they cost £80 now plus postage. Total bargain.
Gently remove 8mm headed bolt on existing bracket remove CPSensor, crack 2 x10mm bolt heads and remove bracket from block.
access is tight. Clean bolt threads and apply copper grease, replace bracket ,tighten bolts, insert CPS tighten 8mm bolt, tidy up go for a test drive.
I have a 1996 x300 4ltr SPORT, glides nicely does not roll in corners but had a flat throttle response. Now it has a POWER BAND from 2,000 - 3,000 rpm, better throttle response and drives like a sports car transformed the car. I love it more Now. Thanks Andy Stodart.
It is also supposed to improve fuel economy better slow down then.
