Air con on 1996 Celebration

Postby ArtyH » Sun Jul 27, 2008 1:49 pm

I have recently tried my air con on my 1996 celebration and discovered low and behold it is out of gas again. It was fully recharged and working again last year, now it is leaking from the pump down in the right hand side of the engine as looked from the drivers seat. I do not know which version of the air con system is used on the last models but have been told a new pump is £360. I am sure there is a repair kit available to service the pump, it must be the rubber seals which have gone, does anyone have any knowledge of such a kit, please?
I'm sure I saw something of this nature last year or the year before, but cannot find it now.
Any help greatly appreciated.

ArtyH,

Sorry to hear about the aircon probs. Hopefully there might be a practical solution. I had a very slight leak last year on the pipe connection on the back of the compressor on my car. It sounds as if this might be a similar problem to yours. When it was recharged last year, did they add the leak-test dye? This would help you identify exactly where is the leak.

If it is the compressor to pipe seal connection, then this is a relatively easy repair. The seal is fairly cheap and its location means that there isn't a great deal of labour involved. I suspect that including a gas recharge, this would cost you about £100 from a decent Jaguar independent specialist or aircon specialist.

Hope that is of some help.

Jaguar Classic Parts do list quite a few seals, but if it's just a few O rings that are needed there are probably generic kits that would suffice.
