EPB stuck

Postby AndyB68 » Sat Apr 07, 2018 1:04 pm

Hi. I've just started up my 2007 XKR but the electronic parking brake won't release. The dash has a warning saying Park Brake Fault so I'm unable to move the car. Has anyone come across this and have any ideas how to clear? Many thanks

Never had an XK8 so my suggestions from 10 years driving a Passat could be wide of the mark

If it happened on those (and it did regularly to some but only once to me) it was necessary to try to switch on IGN whilst holding the EPB switch fully depressed. If that doesn't help, try that with the footbrake depressed. That could give a release (it did for me on my '06MY Passat)
I've got the exact sequence stored on another PC that's now not connected up so if these don't help come back.
Havn't driven a Passat these past two years since sale, memories of past cars fade

The other is to try and cause clear by disconnecting battery for 20 mins (cold boot)

The other is to identify which side is stuck on and then manually wind it out (never had to do that)
Dunno whether your calipers are capable

Now being re-built: '61 Mark IX with 4.2L

Morning. Thanks. Left the battery on charge all night and tried your starting method. Released fine and error cleared from dash. Tried it 4 or 5 times and seems to be fine now :D
