Wheels

Postby Aristocat2009 » Mon Jul 14, 2008 4:25 pm

I've been bringing my 1992 facelift XJS up to scratch over the past year. Have just had the front seats revived by Paul Gaskin of Leather Revive and a marvellous job he has done. www.leatherrevive.co.uk

I am now looking to get the wheels which are 235/60 R15 either renovated or replaced. I beilieve the wheels on my car (original) are refered to as 'Pepperpots'.
Does anyone know if these are still available new to purchase and if so from whom?
I've had one or two quotes to refurbish approx £110 to £120 per wheel but would prefer to replace if cost is not too excessive.
Has anyone replaced with an alloy wheel that looks good on the XJS and if so please advise.

Good to have a forum and thanks for any help forthcoming.

I expect yours are known as 'perforated', CAC5667 6.5"x15"

The 'pepperpots' although of a similar design were narrower and used on the early 3.6

It may be worth considering going to 16" wheels as the correct Pirelli P600 tyres are becoming difficult to find in 15" 235/60

Two that Jaguar offered were the '5 spoke' CCC4943 7"x16" and the 'Sports lattice' MHB6115AA 7"x16" and MMB6115AA 8"x16"

As to availability I can't help. Other wheels will/may fit, but as far as I know, these are the only 'official' recommended ones.

Dear All

Surely *pepperpots" were an XJ6 wheel???

Ref. re-furb you may wish to try Chiltern of Bovingdon, £30.50 per corner in 2006 an and excellent job done! :D

www.chilternltd.co.uk

If you wish to replace I agree with Pop and would go for 16" rims.

Aristocat,

Interesting to hear about your seat renovation. How about posting some before and after pics (or even just some "after" pics) of the work that was done? It's always good for all of us to hear about various suppliers and the quality of their work.

As regards the wheels, are you sure that the current wheels are the originals? I thought that early facelifts were all fitted with 15" alloy lattice wheels. I also thought that the only optional wheel at that time was a 16" alloy lattice. Pepperpots were fitted to the saloons, although there is a similar wheel called the "ogle perforated" that could be fitted to XJSs. But again I'm pretty sure that it was only available for pre-facelift cars. If you post some pics on here, we can identify what wheels you have fitted.

If you're thinking of changing wheels, then if you want to stay "in period" I would go for 16" lattice as that is the original look and gives you flexibility on tyre choice. The 5-spoke alloys CCC4943 are a nice wheel but were fitted only from 1993.5 Model Year. They were updated to a slightly different 5-spoke alloy - MHC6113DA - from 1994.75 Model Year. It all depends how original you want the car to look.

As dh knows from personal experience, Chilterns of Bovingdon seem a good source of varous XJS wheels. The price that you have been quoted of £110 to £120 per wheel to refurb your own seems very, very expensive. I know a number of places that will refurb alloys to a good standard for about £50-£60 per wheel.

Hope that helps

You might try Euro Jag I know they are breaking 2 facelifts. If the wheels of these are not avalable they will most likely have some in stock or will have some soon. They usually charge about £120 inc vat per set of four and this sometimes includes tyres with delivery at about £40.
I got all four my wheels refurbised localy (Stockton (oop north)) for £190 I think £120 per wheel is rather expensive.

According to books I`ve seen, the early 3.6 XJS definitely had "pepperpot" or perforated wheels.
