Door card nightmare

Postby Mackie » Wed Feb 21, 2018 4:08 pm

What’s the secret for putting the door card back on? I have been struggling for an hour now. Is the top hook supposed to go over the hanger near the top right of the door itself? I can’t seem to get it to go on plumb at all.

Argh!

From memory, the top needs a bit of 'persuasion' to hook it into the window frame. Once this is located the rest should line up well. The two electrical connectors for the puddle light han be difficult to keep connected.

Did you fix the problem underneath?

Maybe the hook has been pushed back out of line and needs bending forward to engage on the door card. I had one of these hooks broken off, so I had to drill it and poprivet it back in place. With regards to connections I wrapped insulating type round mine to keep them connected.

I sorted the guard light issue by slicing away the bullet connector plastic covers, rebending them so they slotted back together, and then putting the cover back on and sealing with a bit of tape. Job done.

But I cannot get that door card back on. I gave up once it started to get dark. I’ll try again maybe Friday afternoon. The hook on the rear of the door card seems pretty stiff and unbent, but I cannot get it to hook on that hanger on the door itself.

I guess maybe I should try bending it out slightly?

I've had that door card off before and I promise you it will go on! There is a knack to it that I couldn't even begin to describe but I think it was something like getting it into position and then lifting it slightly, possibly angled up towards the back so the bracket on the back would hook over the cutout in the frame. You may need to push the door card in to get it to hook over.
Quite hard to describe but I coukd probably do it in seconds! Which doesn't help you much I'm afraid!

Another thought (supplied to me from an anonymous benefactor!). It helps a lot if you drop the window so the card can hook over the top.

GOT IT BACK ON!!! Managed to sort it today, by dropping the window as suggested and persuading one of the hooks to drop in place. Door mirror, speaker, and guard light now working perfectly.

Phew! Many thanks all for your patience.
