Full beam only, Help!!

Postby TomCotton » Thu Jul 10, 2008 6:25 pm

I have a facelift 1993 XJS recently purchased. Lights position one, ignition on, dim dip....... fine. Position two, full beam only, NO dip facility on using the dip switch on left hand stalk. Headlamp flash works OK with lights off. Have I missed something or has anyone experienced this? Would appreciate ideas as the handbook is not comprehensive on light relays etc.

Full beam only, Help!!

Tom,

Welcome to the Bulletin Board! I assume that you know that late XJSs work on a "Pull for On, Pull for Off" Dip to Main Beam, rather than the usual "Push forward for Main, Pull back for Dip" basis. In other words the left hand stalk only has one fixed position and you pull against spring pressure to turn Main Beam On or Off.

I only mention this beacuse it sometimes catches out new owners.

If this isn't the issue, then I guess you might have a problem in the headlamp relay, control module or the stalk switch.

Good Luck

PS If you haven't done so, could you please enter your vehicle in the register whne you get a chance. Tks.

Paul – Absolutely right. I have experienced this with the headlamp control module. They can suffer a bit from dry/corroded connections. Good idea to clean them up with an appropriate electrical spray. Worked for me.
