Mot history looks ok, some advisories over the years for light corrosion so you ought to have a good look underneath.
Osf Wing and nose cone have been painted at some time - but it’s 20 years old next Feb!
You need to see evidence of chain tensioner work and whether it’s ever had a replacement engine.
At that money I would at least look if I wanted one.

Re: Thought about taking a gamble...
I’d be glad to come along, just pay my expenses from Orkney and I’ll be there
Seriously though, always look at the mot history - the reg is in one of the pics. It tells you quite a bit about what’s had to be done and what’s been ignored. Unfortunately the system no longer shows where the mot was done - it did that previously for a short time and could be informative. Sometimes showed a fail with a long list of really bad stuff, then a pass the next day at a different garage - I hope they reinstate that part. Surely there is someone local to you who could accompany you?
Before we bought our daily driver Honda CRV, I wrote down the numbers of loads of them and checked to see if there was any common theme of mot failure.
Jaguar Steve on pistonheads did a great write up on the 308 saloon version like mine which shares a lot of stuff with the XKR but I’m not sure if anyone did the same for the XK.
Floorpans, sills, wing bottoms are all possible bad bits and they are heavy on suspension components, not to mention the occasional ‘fruit machine’ syndrome with warning lights all over the place - often down to a less than lively battery. BUT they are fabulous cars for the money.

Re: Thought about taking a gamble...
Cheers, Ian. I wish I could pay your expenses! I'd happily sort a knowledgeable JEC member out with their fav tipple if someone were to be a wingman and extra eyes with me. I tried to call the dealer about that red XKR, but they've yet to reply to my email.I’d be glad to come along, just pay my expenses from Orkney and I’ll be there

I don't really need another car, but I've been told I should get an XKR in my life. I just don't want to pay fortunes!

Re: Thought about taking a gamble...
if anyone does fancy a gamble.....
I have , just yesterday , been asked to dispose of a 2000 XKR convertible for a friend, who wants the car gone
it does have some issues, mainly underside
its MOT'd, it drives Ok, its 70K miles
I'm told it will most likely pass an mot with some advises when it falls due in June
a lovely David Marks history , tensioners, gearbox service , hood service, blah blah
make NO mistake its a project, but it will be cheap
should be with me the end of February
PM me if you want details up front, other wise its an eBay disposal job
Cheers Rob Jenner

Re: Thought about taking a gamble...
So,may be you need to see the extent of the corrosion underneath before bidding any more than the car, and car is worth as spares otherwise the odds of getting a good value car will be similar to those of the national lottery.
