85 XJ-S 3.6 - TROUBLE STARTING/DRIVING WHEN ENGINE WARM

Postby vipervisual » Wed Jan 31, 2018 5:11 pm

Hi all,
Have posted a few time regarding this, as I get ever closer to the fix I am looking for more assistance please.

Starts cold pretty fine, warms up nicely and drives like a dream. Stop somewhere for about 30 mins, try to start and drive and I am now faced with a jerky, spluttery ride and continual stalling when slowing down. I really don't understand it.
There is a section in the dedicated Haynes manual about this 'trouble starting from warm' didn't make much sense to me, perhaps someone could elaborate or has had the same problem?

Also, I have been advised to clean out the swirl pot which I have located, but when I got to take off the main connecting pipe of course fuel comes out so I quickly rejoin it.

How do I clean this swirl pot? And the pipes too?

Please help - My first XJ-S and I can barely drive it :(

Hi,
Your fuel system will be pressurised so you could trace the fuel relay and disconnect it, and then turn over the motor. Always disconnect the battery when breaking into the fuel system. I would then clamp the pipes to the swirl pot and have some rags to soak up any residue. Maybe other members could add to this as it is a job that I have not done before.
Good Luck
Alan
